What formula would you recommend in case breastfeeding doesn’t work out or not immediately?

We had this problem, but I was so adamant on breastfeeding that I didn’t have anything in the house just in case. So I definitely recommend it! In the end breastfeeding was too stressful for me and baby so we went with Aptamil First Baby Milk and our little girl has always been good on it.

I heard the Hipp organic is the kindest to the gut of a new baby. We used this a few times with our baby who has been breastfed till now (six months old) and we had no side effects.

I would recommend reaching out to La Leche League group on Facebook. That helped me so much with breastfeeding from day one. It was not an easy journey, but here we are six months on doing a lot better. Good luck!

You can get small 70ml prefilled bottles of Aptamil, which are suitable for your hospital bag. They come with a sterile teat so you’re not having to make up a formula bottle in hospital.

I would recommend these as a back up in your hospital bag in case your breast milk doesn’t come in. Then if you want to continue at home you can switch to the Aptamil 1 powder formula and make up feeds at home.

If you do buy baby bottles, have a look at ones that are proven anti-colic and that don’t have a very big teat. I bought the Tommy Tippee ones and the teat was too big for my little girl's mouth and she didn’t like it at all and couldn’t latch on so I switched to MAM bottles. A lot more like a nipple and she was able to drink a lot better from them.

Hope this helps!
