Before going off for maternity leave, do I have to provide my work with a confirmation of my pregnancy from the GP?

Yes, you don't legally have to tell your employer you are pregnant until you're 20 weeks, but it is advisable to do so before so they can carry out risk assessments.

After your 20 week appointment, your midwife will give you a MAT B1 form. This is confirmation of your pregnancy and by handing this to your employer, they have to pay you Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) if you are entitled to it. If not, you will need it to help with a universal credit claim.
