Can I give my nine month old tea? My mum is saying it’s a good idea as it was a normal thing when I was a baby but I don’t think it’s a good idea.
You’re totally right! It’s not really recommended, although it was commonly done in the past (my mum said the same)!
There's a few reasons for this. Tea contains caffeine, which is a stimulant that babies don’t need. It also contains tannins, which can prevent iron being absorbed by the body. It can also mean they end up drinking a lot of fluid which fills them up and stops them eating enough food for the nutrition they need.
Something for your mum to look forward to when little one is a bit older!
