First time mum here. What type of car seat do I need? Do you change them as the kid grows? Also, is second hand ok?

Oh my goodness, there are so many car seats out there, aren’t there?! For newborns, you need a lie flat, backwards facing car seat.

I had a Maxi-Cosi Pebble with all three of mine but there are so many good ones out there. I highly recommend one with an isofix, which means you can just click the newborn car seat in and out of the car and carry into house or attach to buggy if you need to. They are fitted using the isofix anchor points in your car. You will need to check you have these.

Lots of people do buy second hand, just make sure it has never been in an accident and nothing is broken! There are a few sales on at the moment too.

You will need to change car seat as they grow. It’s done on child’s weight and size.

Hi, great question! We got a Maxi-Cosi initially for our newborn. You can use a newborn car seat on some buggies as well which is always useful!

Once they grow out of the Maxi-Cosi seat then you need to invest in a bigger toddler type seat. The main things are that the need to face backwards and that the belts are correctly fastened and tight enough. They usually advise not to buy second hand as you can’t quality assure them properly! Hope this helps you!
