I started to breastfeed with a nipple shield. But now I'm not sure when I should stop using one?

I used a nipple shield with my first baby as it was recommended by a lactation consultant because of poor latch. And I was also very unsure when to stop!

I followed the guidance of my lactation consultant and read a few articles about it. I worked out that I could start weaning off the nipple shield once feeding was well established and she was gaining weight and peeing and pooing as expected. The time frame seems to varying hugely between two days and days weeks of use. Some people seem to use nipple shields for the whole of their breastfeeding journey.

I found this article really helpful if you’d like to check it out: https://kellymom.com/ages/newborn/nb-challenges/wean-shield/
