My little girl is two months old and she manages to go four days without pooping. It’s only on day four that she gets a tummy ache. Apparently this is normal, but do you have any suggestions on how to help her?

Although it may not seem like it, only opening their bowels every four days is very common with babies and completely normal. Things will change when you introduce solids! Babies also often develop infant dyschezia at about this age, so you might want to have a look into that and see if it sounds familiar. They don’t have to be passing poo to have these problems - sometimes wind is enough to upset them.

Hello! So, there are two options I would advise. What I personally did with my little girl, who was an extremely windy baby, was after feeding her and burping her I massage her belly to help the belly a bit. When I bathe her, I make sure to keep her belly in the water and massage it on the sides. Basically, I massage her belly whenever possible!

Every few days, I take a bath with her so she’s on my chest and I make sure she’s warm and relaxed as babies feel safe on our skin. After oiling her and putting in PJs, I put her on her belly to sleep. After an hour or two, I swap her to sleep on her back. Also, if she naps during the day, I let her sleep on her belly the full nap. It definitely helps with getting gas out!!
